On this day, August 9, 2023, the Office of the Commissioner of Indigenous Languages (the Commission) joins with Indigenous Peoples and Nations worldwide in commemorating International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.
This year’s theme – Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self-determination – highlights the contributions of our youth and the active role they play in exercising their rights to self-determination.
The Commission recognizes the fundamental connection between language and self-determination. We celebrate our Indigenous youth and support their self-determining efforts to preserve and protect their languages, their cultures, their worldviews, and their identities.
